Your Nervous System Didn’t Sign Up for This: Reclaiming Peace in the Age of Overwhelm

I saw this quote from @tinybuddhaofficial the other day and it stopped me in my tracks:

“We weren’t designed to process global tragedy at breakfast, respond to work emergencies at dinner, and fall asleep doomscrolling at night. Our nervous systems never consented to this arrangement.”

Truth? I’ve lived every word of that.

Right now, I’m in the middle of a major life move—physically, emotionally, and professionally. I’m leaving behind Florida, a chapter that’s felt like both survival mode and stagnation, and heading back to New York to reclaim my momentum. But as I pack up my life (again), it’s impossible not to notice how loud the world has gotten. Every ping, every headline, every “urgent” demand chips away at the ability to just be.

We’ve normalized a kind of digital chaos that our bodies and minds were never built for. We call it hustle. We call it productivity. But let’s be honest—it’s often just burnout dressed up in a cute bomber jacket.

And here’s the kicker: we blame ourselves for not keeping up.

But maybe it’s not that we’re falling short. Maybe the system is just broken.

Here’s what I’m learning (again):

  • Your nervous system is not a machine. It’s not meant to absorb trauma on loop or live in a constant state of high alert.

  • Feeling drained isn’t weakness—it’s information. It’s your body calling for boundaries, not more caffeine or calendar hacks.

  • Slowing down is strategic. Especially in times of transition.

For me, this isn’t just about digital detox or self-care rituals (though, yes, both help). This is about consciously choosing how I show up—online, in my business, in my relationships, and in the mirror.

I’m giving myself permission to step out of the noise and into something more intentional. To work differently. To build differently. To live differently.

And if you’re reading this, maybe it’s time for your own reset too.

Your permission slip:

You don’t need to solve the world’s problems before breakfast.

You don’t need to answer that email at 9:47 pm. I am not even up that late anymore.

You don’t need to consume every tragedy, trend, or take just to feel informed.

Your nervous system didn’t sign up for this pace. And honestly? Neither did your soul.

Final thought:

If you’ve been craving quiet, it’s not a weakness. It’s wisdom.

This new chapter I’m walking into? It’s not about doing more. It’s about doing what matters—with clarity, soul, and real strategy. That’s the AVILA way.

Let’s stay connected.
